Former NBA guard Rashad McCants compared Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James’ career to the “Fast & Furious” franchise as the four-time champion contemplates returning to the NBA for a 24th season.
“Nah, he definitely deserve everything, man,” McCants said of James. “I’m just waiting for this s— to be over with.”
He continued.
“This like ‘Fast and the Furious,'” he said. “It’s like god damn, we got another one?”
While McCants may feel that James’ career is extending too long, the Lakers star is still one of the best players in the NBA, even though he turned 41 during the 2025-26 season.
After missing the start of the season with sciatica, James still ended up appearing in 60 games for the Lakers. He made yet another All-Star team and averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from 3.
The Lakers ended up earning the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference, and James’ ability to mesh with fellow stars Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves was a major reason why. James took a step back in the L.A. offense and worked more as a third option, helping the Lakers go on a major run after the All-Star break.
Then, when Doncic and Reaves both were injured heading into the playoffs, the four-time league MVP switched things into another gear. He led the Lakers to a 3-0 series lead against the Houston Rockets and eventually a series victory in six games.
Reaves missed the first four games of that series, yet James still was good enough to put Los Angeles into the second round.
Unfortunately, the Lakers were swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals, as they ran out of juice on offense with Doncic (hamstring) still sidelined. Still, James finished the playoffs averaging 23.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 7.3 assists per contest across 10 games.
McCants may be tired of James after 23 seasons, but the Lakers star is still a valuable player and has set many all-time records in his storied career. If James returns for a 24th season, there likely won’t be a shortage of interested teams in his services.
The star forward is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
