The Los Angeles Lakers decided on Friday to waive veteran center DeMarcus Cousin, who they signed as a free agent last summer.
The move was made in order to make room for newly acquired Markieff Morris.
Cousins never played for the Lakers after suffering an ACL injury in August. Originally, the hope was that the veteran would be ready to play by the end of the regular season, but the Lakers have decided to go in a different direction.
The decision to waive Cousins allows the Lakers to look for other ways to bolster their roster for what they hope will be a long playoff run.
The Lakers will begin the remainder of the schedule on Friday night when they host the Memphis Grizzlies, followed by a Sunday afternoon home matchup against the Boston Celtics.
