Prominent sports agent and founder of Klutch Sports Group Rich Paul has close ties to Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, and he recently revealed that their relationship has caused people to steer clients away from him.
“I feel the effects of it because I’ve had NBA current players and former players involve themselves in a recruiting process with a kid,” Paul said. “It’s not their son — and purposely push a kid to a different agency because of their disdain for LeBron. And I’m his guy. So I know what happens and what’s to be true.”
Even though James is one of the greatest basketball players in the history of the NBA, it appears that there are people that don’t want to be associated with him. Since Paul and James have a long friendship and business partnership, it appears that the NBA agent is viewed as an extension of the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
It’s unfortunate that Paul has lost out on some clients, but he still represents many of the biggest names in the NBA, including Draymond Green, Anthony Davis, De’Aaron Fox, Brandon Ingram and many others.
Davis ended up winning a title alongside James during his time with the Lakers, and he’s one of several of Paul’s clients to win at the highest level. Green, Fred VanVleet, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Lu Dort are all clients of Paul’s that are NBA champions.
James is a polarizing figure in the NBA because of his immense talent, and he’s often compared to Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan in debates about the greatest player of all time.
The Lakers star has cemented his legacy in the NBA, winning four MVPs, four NBA Finals MVPs and four rings. He’s also set the record for most career points and is still playing at a high level at the age of 41.
James is looking to continue to add to his resume in the playoffs this season with the Lakers taking on the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round. Even though some people have steered clients away from Paul, the prominent NBA agent certainly has gained a lot of notoriety from working alongside James all of these years.
