Footage Shows Rajon Rondo Already Helping Coach Lakers Practice After Surgery

Earlier this week, it was reported that Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel was going to let injured point guard Rajon Rondo help contribute to the team’s coaching staff from outside the NBA’s bubble.

Based on a video Rondo posted to social media on Thursday, it looks like he has already started his new role with the team.

Last weekend, Rondo unfortunately broke his thumb and has now undergone surgery to repair the injury.

The injury will reportedly take six-to-eight weeks to heal. As long as the Lakers are still in the championship hunt when Rondo has fully recovered, it seems likely that he will re-enter the bubble in Orlando, Fla. and rejoin the team as a member of its rotation.

Until then, Rondo getting the chance to operate as a coach will help the veteran guard in many ways.

First off, it will allow him to remain connected to his Lakers teammates and involved in the day-to-day game preparation that has already begun.

Beyond that, it will allow the 34-year-old veteran the chance to see what it is like to work as a coach in the NBA.

Surely, his NBA career is starting to wind down, and getting this taste of what life is like as a coach could help him when it comes to making decisions about his future after he retires from the game.
