Anthony Davis Talks Trash to Kyrie Irving After Rejecting His Shot
- Updated: January 24, 2020
The Los Angeles Lakers’ Anthony Davis may come off as a quiet, low-key guy, but that wasn’t the case on Thursday night against the Brooklyn Nets.
After blocking a shot by Kyrie Irving, Davis threw a little shade at the West Orange, N.J. native.
Davis had a quiet night offensively with 16 points as he sat out the fourth quarter with the game in hand. But he made his presence felt defensively and on the boards with 11 rebounds in 27 minutes.
Irving, meanwhile, had an anemic 20 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the field and just four assists.
With the Lakers’ 36-9 record and fifth-ranked defense in the NBA, Davis has made himself the leading candidate for Defensive Player of the Year. It’s an award that he set out to win from the start of training camp.
The Lakers led 75-70 at the end of a run-and-gun first half that saw a flurry of 3-pointers from both teams. But they held the Nets to just 43 points in the second half and led by as many as 25 in the final frame.
The Lakers end their five-game road trip on Saturday against the shorthanded Philadelphia 76ers.
