After Ohio State University defensive lineman Chase Young was quickly selected in the 2020 NFL Draft on Thursday night, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James offered his enthusiastic congratulations on the honor.
Young was the second overall selection in the draft and was chosen by the Washington Redskins, with the defensive end expected to move into his new team’s starting lineup
The selection of Young marked the second year in a row that an Ohio State defensive lineman was chosen with the second overall pick. Last year, Nick Bosa was tabbed by the San Francisco 49ers with that choice.
Back in 2003, James went straight from playing high school basketball in Akron, Ohio to beginning his NBA career with the Cleveland Cavaliers as the top overall pick in that draft.
However, James also played wide receiver for his alma mater, St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, before giving up the sport to focus on basketball. Had he first gone on to play college basketball, James has previously hinted that his choice would have been Ohio State.
James, like all other NBA players, would rather be on the court competing for an NBA title. Unfortunately, there’s no guarantee he’ll get that chance this season, with no official decision having been made on that status by the NBA.
