Tracking Data Proves Incredible Connection Between LeBron James and Anthony Davis

It seems like LeBron James has already established great chemistry with new Los Angeles Lakers teammate Anthony Davis. In fact, he has passed the ball to Davis more than to any other teammate in his entire career.

Based on available tracking data, James has been passing the ball to Davis 25.2 times per 36 minutes shared on the court. Before this season, the most James had passed to a teammate was in 2015-16 when he passed to Kyrie Irving 22.3 per 36 minutes shared. It was that season when the Cleveland Cavaliers won their lone championship.

James has previously said that the Lakers offense should run through Davis, and it looks like he is keeping his word. As the team’s leading playmaker, James has targeted Davis more than any other player on the Lakers.

However, according to the data, it is not only Davis who has benefited from James’ legendary court vision and passing skills. Kyle Kuzma has also received more passes from James than Irving had in the past. James has passed the ball to Kuzma 23.4 passes per 36 minutes shared.

Through the team’s first 13 games, James has showcased that he is one of the league’s best facilitators. He is averaging a league-leading 11.2 assists per game, which is also a career high for the 16-year veteran.

Because of James’ playmaking, the Lakers are off to their best start to a season in almost a decade.
