Fizdale, 47, has plenty of NBA coaching experience. In all, he has spent 17 seasons as a member of an NBA coaching staff.
Most recently, Fizdale spent the 2018-19 season and part of the 2019-20 season as the New York Knicks’ head coach. The results were poor, but Fizdale has had past success in an assistant coaching role. Fortunately, that’s the position he will assume with the Lakers.
Fizdale spent eight seasons with the Miami Heat during the team’s mini dynasty run. He spent six of his years there as an assistant coach and two as an associate head coach. Miami won two titles during his tenure.
Fizdale never played basketball at the NBA level, but he did play for four years at the University of San Diego. There, he averaged 8.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game.
