The month of August has not been a good one for Los Angeles Lakers center DeMarcus Cousins, who earlier this month suffered a torn ACL.
Now, he faces more serious off-the-court concerns after a warrant on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge was issued for his arrest after he allegedly threatened to kill his former girlfriend, who is also the mother of his 7-year-old son.
ESPN reported that the warrant was issued in Mobile, Ala.:
“The Mobile municipal court website lists a third-degree harassing communications charge against Cousins, but no other details have been disclosed. A police spokesperson told USA Today Sports that ‘an arrest warrant has been issued.'”
The basis for the alleged threat was the fact that Christy West, the former girlfriend, refused to allow Cousins’ son attend his wedding in Atlanta last Saturday. West recorded the call that was alleged to be from Cousins, with gossip website TMZ then breaking that news on Tuesday.
TMZ also reported that West asked for a restraining order after stating in court documents that Cousins had previously threatened and choked her. Both the Lakers and NBA are investigating the charges.
The 29-year-old Cousins missed the second half of the 2017-18 season and most of last year after tearing his Achilles. Then, after signing with the Lakers last month, he suffered the ACL injury and could potentially miss the entire year
