Former Los Angeles Lakers forward Lamar Odom is currently facing some scrutiny from one Manhattan judge.
Odom recently participated in a celebrity boxing match that reportedly netted the former NBA player $40,000. This brought about criticism from the court, based on Odom’s alleged failure to uphold his end of a settlement to issue child support payments to his former partner.
“If Mr. Odom is in good enough shape to participate in a boxing match, he’s certainly in good enough shape to abide by his obligations to support his children as set forth in the settlement agreement,” Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Matthew Cooper said during a video hearing — which the former Los Angeles Laker did not attend.
Odom was sued earlier in the year by Liza Morales, the former Laker’s ex-girlfriend, claiming that he has not been honoring an agreed-upon child support settlement that was issued in 2015. According to Morales, Odom has been neglecting to make his support payments since June 2020.
This is not the first time that the 2010-11 Sixth Man of the Year has had legal issues either. In 2013, Odom was arrested for a DUI shortly after his final season in the NBA. The former Laker was given three years of probation.
Odom ended his professional career with a list of accolades that includes two NBA Finals victories and a spot on the 1999-00 NBA All-Rookie First Team. Over the course of his 14 seasons in the league, the NBA champion spent time with four different franchises but spent the majority of his time with the Lakers. There, Odom won his two championships in seven seasons.
