The Los Angeles Lakers recently traded for one of the faces of the NBA in Luka Doncic, but they had to give up a player who was so important to their success on both ends of the floor this season for the Slovenian.

Big man Anthony Davis was among the players and assets that the Lakers had to relinquish in the three-team trade, and he was amid arguably his best season in Los Angeles prior to being dealt.

Davis seems to think the Lakers did him dirty by trading him for Doncic only days before the Feb. 6 trade deadline. The former University of Kentucky star liked a post on Instagram depicting a Davis Lakers jersey and a paper note on top of it that reads, “They did you dirty bro.”

Davis spent more than five seasons in Los Angeles playing alongside LeBron James and consistently provided the Lakers with elite two-way play. In 42 games played in his final season in Los Angeles, he averaged 25.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.1 blocks per contest.

For as shocking and disappointing as the news of Davis getting traded might have been for some fans of the iconic franchise, he seemingly will still have a real shot to win at a high level in Dallas.

He is now on the same team as none other than maybe the most skilled player at the guard position the NBA has ever seen in Kyrie Irving. Irving can still put the ball through the bottom of the net with the best of them, as he’s scoring 24.3 points per game while shooting 47.9 percent from the floor and 41.5 percent from deep in the 2024-25 campaign.

The Mavericks also have a strong supporting cast around Davis and Irving. Klay Thompson, P.J. Washington, Daniel Gafford, Dereck Lively II and Jaden Hardy have all been impactful for Dallas this season, and the team just recently traded for Caleb Martin on Tuesday.

After all of Davis’ contributions as a Laker, fans of the team should wish him all the best with the Mavericks and hope that he and Irving can keep Dallas a contender in the Western Conference.
