In the third quarter of the Los Angeles Lakers’ 117-87 win over the New York Knicks, Anthony Davis took a nasty fall and had to exit the game.
Although X-rays were negative, he’s not expected to travel with the team as it embarks on a quick two-game road trip later this week.
The Lakers are calling Davis’ injury a sacral contusion. The sacrum is a triangular bone at the rear base of the spine, just above the tailbone.
Before getting hurt, Davis was only able to manage five points on 2-of-8 shooting from the field in 28 minutes, although he also pitched in with five assists, three steals and two blocks.
Nonetheless, the Lakers still made quick work of the moribund Knicks. L.A. led by 19 when Davis went out, but was able to extend its advantage throughout the fourth quarter.
LeBron James scored 31 points, and the Lakers exploited New York’s porous defense with 32 fast-break points.
L.A. will travel to Texas on Friday to face the Dallas Mavericks, and will then play the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday.
