Anthony Davis Says He’d ‘Definitely Consider’ Playing for Chicago Bulls

When the Los Angeles Lakers shipped off talented young players and future draft picks in exchange for All-Star big man Anthony Davis, they surely planned for him to be one of the faces of the franchise for years to come.

That’s despite the fact that Davis is actually eligible to become a free agent next summer. While that alone should not strike fear in the hearts of Lakers fans everywhere, a recent statement Davis made might.

When recently speaking about his NBA future, the Chicago native mentioned that he would definitely consider playing for the Chicago Bulls in the future.

“I mean, (this is) definitely hometown,” he said. “If the opportunity ever presents itself and when that time comes, I’d definitely consider it.”

Davis grew up in South Side, Chicago. It was during that time that he went from a relatively unknown 6-foot point guard, to a nationally heralded big man in the span of just a few school years. Despite playing his college ball in Kentucky, and the entirety of his professional career with the New Orleans Pelicans, Davis admits that a connection between him and the Windy City still exists.

“It’s a connection,” he said. “A lot of these kids are from the same neighborhoods that I’m from. And so to have someone come back that they can relate to, I think that’s a huge impact on them.

“It’s fun to come back to where you’re from and help the youth. These kids are amazing. They’re fun to hang around and they listen. They want to learn. There’s some good talent. … I’m excited to give my knowledge and experience and spend this time with them.”

Hopefully, that connection does not serve as a reason to convince Davis to trade in his Lakers uniform for a Bulls one.

Considering the fact that he told many teams across the NBA that he only wanted to play in L.A., that seems likely.

Still, if past NBA seasons have taught us anything, it’s that the desires of NBA stars can be fickle indeed.
