The Los Angeles Lakers are adding yet another gem to their star-studded training staff, as it was reported by Dave McMenamin of ESPN that the team is hiring former Lakers guard Mike Penberthy as a shooting coach.
Penberthy played 56 total games for the Lakers from 2000 to 2002 and actually played alongside former Lakers superstars Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. He had career averages of 4.9 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. More importantly, he shot just under 40 percent from beyond the arc.
With shooters Kyle Kuzma, Avery Bradley, Danny Green, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Quinn Cook, Jared Dudley, and Troy Daniels already in the mix, Penberthy will make the Lakers that much more dangerous from deep.
Both the team’s roster and training staff is starting to round into form, and Lakers fans should be supremely confident heading into the 2019-20 campaign.
