If fans are looking for signs that Anthony Davis will re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason, a recent report that the big man is putting his L.A. home up for sale is probably one to ignore.
According to Neal J. Leitereg of the Los Angeles Times, Davis has put his Westlake Village mansion up on the market.
“With no clear end to the quarantine in sight, Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis is turning his attention to business away from the court,” Leitereg wrote. “The seven-time all-star has listed his sprawling estate in the North Ranch area of Westlake Village for $7.995 million.
“The contemporary Mediterranean mansion sits behind gates with a guesthouse and a $1-million infinity-edge swimming pool complete with dual waterslides, a baja deck and a spa. But perhaps even more impressive: an attached basketball gymnasium featuring its own viewing box.”
Custom-built in 1996, the approximately 16,000-square-foot home also includes an in-home movie theater, a two-story entry with a curved staircase, five bedrooms, seven bathrooms and a multi-room master suite.
Records show that Davis purchased the home two years ago for a $7.479 million.
The news wouldn’t be all that notable if not for the fact that Davis is entering an offseason in which he will become a free agent.
While the expectation around the NBA is that Davis will re-sign with the Lakers, him putting his local home up for sale certainly does raise some questions.
Still, chances are good that Davis is simply looking to find a home that is better suited to his long-term needs in Los Angeles.
Perhaps panic shouldn’t really begin until a different report details Davis’ purchase of a home in some other NBA city.
