While Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry lost an MVP-caliber teammate this past offseason, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James gained one.
In an interview with Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Warriors icon opened up about James, Anthony Davis and the new-look Lakers.
“I mean they’re tough,” said Curry. “You start with LeBron and AD. Those are two guys who demand your attention every possession, and I think they showed (on Wednesday night) a little bit how they can work in tandem, putting pressure on that three or four spot, with either JaVale (McGee) or Dwight (Howard) leading up, and LeBron having two lob threats. And they’ve got some shooting around them, perimeter defense. They’re good. It’s going to take a lot to beat them. You can tell when a team truly believes that a team is good, but they still have to go out and prove it. They have that vibe over there, like they know that they’re talented but I think there’s an edge to them.”
The Lakers will be a completely different team this upcoming season. Headlined by the addition of Davis, the Lakers automatically enter the contender conversation. The big man has career averages of 23.7 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game.
Not only does the veteran bring the Lakers another offensive weapon but he fires up the defensive side of the floor as well. With James by his side, Davis will certainly wreck havoc against opposing teams.
Although James wasn’t able to take the Lakers to the playoffs last season, he put up 27.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game in his first campaign in Los Angeles.
The Lakers open up the 2019-20 regular season against the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday.
