Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey recently weighed in on the greatest-basketball-player-of-all-time debate. Morey believes that Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is “for sure” the best to ever play the game.
Morey made the argument that the game has advanced since Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls dominated the league in the 1990s.
Since taking on the role of general manager for the Rockets in 2007, Morey has been a pioneer of integrating statistics and analytics into basketball decision-making.
With Morey at the helm of the Rockets’ front office, the team has enjoyed a record of 636-396, to go along with nine playoff appearances in 13 seasons.
While James has not passed Jordan in championship victories, he does have the edge in career minutes, points, assists, rebounds and blocks.
In his 17th season, the four-time MVP has led the Lakers to a 49-14 record, good for first place in the Western Conference. In the event that the NBA resumes play this season, James has the Lakers well positioned for a run to capture the franchise’s 17th championship.
