Report: Former Lakers Champion Arrested for Firing His Rifle at Couple

Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Shannon Brown was charged on May 2 with aggravated assault for allegedly firing rifle shots at two people who had entered his Tyrone, Ga. home.

The 34-year-old Brown’s home had been listed for sale and had the gate and front door open when a man and woman stopped at the residence.

The couple indicated that it had announced its presence when entering the home, with an individual inside saying, “Come in.”

At some point, according to the couple, Brown made his presence known and was holding a rifle. As the couple was leaving, Brown allegedly fired five or six rounds in its direction.

Approximately three hours later, the couple spoke with police, with law enforcement officers then speaking to Brown, who indicated he thought a break-in was in progress.

In checking Brown’s property, officers found an empty shell casing and then subsequently arrested Brown, with further investigation being conducted.

Brown played for the Lakers from 2009 to 2011 after being traded with Adam Morrison in a trade deadline deal from Charlotte.

Over the three seasons that Brown was with the Lakers, he was part of two NBA championship teams in 2009 and 2010, almost exclusively coming off the bench.

During Brown’s 182 regular season games in a Lakers uniform, he averaged 7.9 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

The Lakers, one of eight teams that Brown played for during his nine years in the NBA, chose not to re-sign him after the 2010-11 season. He last played for the Miami Heat in 2014.
