Report: Luka Doncic stresses ‘every single day’ that his goal is NBA title

The Los Angeles Lakers have long operated with a championship or bust mentality, and that’s why fans of the team should be excited to get wind of the latest report regarding star guard Luka Doncic’s desire to win a ring.

A source told ESPN that the Slovenian stresses “every single day” that his goal is to win a championship. Doncic already has earned so many individual accolades such as five All-Star nods, five All-NBA selections and a scoring title, yet he hasn’t captured the league’s ultimate prize.

“He stresses every single day that his goal is to win a championship,” a source close to Doncic told ESPN. “He trusts the front office to do their part, and he trusts what they’re building.”

If Doncic wants to cement himself as a Lakers legend along with the likes of Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and many others, he has no choice but to win a ring in Los Angeles. Anything less than at least one ring across Doncic’s stint as a Laker would be a major disappointment, as the 26-year-old is a generational talent.

Doncic came up well short of helping the Lakers win a title last season, as L.A. got bounced from the 2025 NBA Playoffs before it won so much as a single series. But he got traded to the franchise partway through the season and didn’t have all that much time to get adjusted to his new team. Not only that, but he seemingly didn’t have the supporting cast necessary to make a deep run.

Maybe that’s all changed now, and the hope is that he has a talented enough supporting cast to lead the Lakers to the promised land next year. While big man Deandre Ayton has his flaws, there’s no denying that he’s a huge talent upgrade over Jaxson Hayes at the starting center spot.

Meanwhile, newcomer Marcus Smart adds an elite defensive presence at the guard position that the Lakers didn’t have last season as well. He was named the Defensive Player of the Year earlier in the decade in the 2021-22 campaign.

Hopefully, 2026 will be the year that Doncic is able to get over the championship hump at the highest level and deliver the 18th title in franchise history to the Lakers.
