The Los Angeles Lakers aren’t looking to just make additions and improvements to their roster. According to a Saturday report, the Lakers are still looking to further build out their coaching staff.
It appears the next assistant coach the Lakers will consider is Golden State Warriors assistant coach Ron Adams. The defending Western Conference champions granted the Lakers permission to discuss a possible role for Adams on Lakers head coach Frank Vogel’s staff.
One thing to know about Adams is that he is not just your run-of-the-mill NBA assistant coach. In fact, last October marked the fourth consecutive time that he was voted as the top assistant in the league by his peers. He has worked as the chief defensive strategist for Golden State since 2014 and has overseen the defensive end of one of the most prolific teams in NBA history.
Upon hearing the news that the Lakers were interested in Adams, several notable NBA reporters mentioned how great of a fit it could be.
It’s unclear how likely it is for Adams to leave the Warriors, but there is no doubt that it would be quite enticing for any defensive-minded coach to work with the likes of Lakers stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Either way, this news is a reminder that it takes more than just talent on the court to win. The Lakers are clearly doing their due diligence to make sure that they are set up for success in the 2019-20 season and beyond.
