LeBron James sends cryptic message to Anthony Davis after he gets traded

Former Minnesota Timberwolves player Rashad McCants accused Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James of having never liked Anthony Davis in light of the big man getting traded to the Dallas Mavericks. However, a thoughtful message that James recently penned for his former teammate on Instagram all but put the kibosh on that notion.

James wished Davis the best with his new team in the Mavericks and also ended the message in a cryptic manner with the words, “See you soon.”

It’s unclear what exactly James meant with the end of his message, but it seems highly unlikely that he and Davis will join forces once again at the NBA level, at least as players. No player in the league right now is older than James, and Davis isn’t getting any younger himself.

Davis arguably stacks up with any big man James has ever played with in terms of talent. Some other notable bigs James has been teammates with during his pro tenure include Kevin Love and Chris Bosh.

But Love and Bosh didn’t produce on the offensive end with James as their teammate at the level Davis did.  Neither Bosh nor Love averaged 20 points per game in any season playing alongside LeBron, while Davis averaged a team-high 25.7 per game this season before he was traded to Dallas.

Just like he did while he was teammates with Love in Cleveland and Bosh in Miami, James won a championship with Davis as his teammate. The Lakers captured the 2020 NBA title after they defeated the Miami Heat in the championship series.

However, the Lakers then oscillated in and out of title contention with James and Davis leading the way following the team’s title run in 2020. Los Angeles never reached the NBA Finals again with the dynamic duo, and the Lakers even missed out on the 2022 NBA Playoffs entirely.

It should be interesting to find out how Davis will fare playing alongside star guard Kyrie Irving on the Mavericks. In their first game following the Doncic trade, the Mavericks got blown out by the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday and allowed Cleveland to score 144 points. Davis and Irving both did not play in the contest.
