Aside from the tragic death of franchise icon Kobe Bryant, the Los Angeles Lakers are having a fantastic 2019-20 season.
The team’s front office has been a strong part of the success as it has crafted together a meaningful coaching staff and roster.
Things have gone so well that superstar LeBron James recently said the connection he has with Lakers front office is the best he’s ever had during his career.
James, 35, is one of the greatest players in NBA history.
Over the course of his 17-year career, James has played with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Lakers.
Although Cleveland is his hometown and the Cavaliers have a special place in his heart, James never saw eye to eye with Cavs owner Dan Gilbert.
While James handed the Lakers an incredible compliment, his tenure with the team didn’t start in the best fashion. As a matter of fact, the Lakers had a very forgettable 2018-19 campaign.
Last season, the front office assembled a very odd squad with a mix of youngsters and veterans. The group never found a winning rhythm and sadly missed the playoffs despite having a four-time MVP on the roster.
Furthermore, Magic Johnson abruptly stepped down from his position as president of basketball operations and took strange shots at Rob Pelinka on national television.
This season has been a whole different story. The front office traded for a transcendent talent in Anthony Davis, hired the respectable Frank Vogel as head coach and masterfully signed several key players.
While the results aren’t fully formed, the Lakers currently sit atop the Western Conference standings and are positioned as premier championship threats come June.
