Humility and greatness don’t always go hand in hand, but when LeBron James passed Michael Jordan in all-time field goals made on Friday, the Los Angeles Lakers star showed modesty in his accomplishment.

“Any time you’re in a marathon and you’re able to have feats throughout that marathon, I think it’s just pretty cool to be linked with the greats,” James told ESPN’s Jorge Sedano at the conclusion of the Lakers victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

“You said the name Michael Jordan; it just means so much to me. Any time I’m linked with his name, with his greatness and what he was able to do with the game. Hopefully, I continue to make him and all the other greats proud. Any time I’m linked with them. Hopefully, I can continue to make my family and my fans proud, as well.”

The Lakers defeated the Mavericks 129-114 as James recorded 35 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists.

In the game, James managed to best Mavs star Luka Doncic who had 25 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

James registered the 12,193rd field goal of his career on a fast-break opportunity with six minutes and 31 seconds left in the third quarter.

The layup moved James to fourth place in the all-time field goals made list, surpassing Jordan who had made 12,192.

After the buzzer sounded, the 17-year veteran and four-time MVP finished the game with a total of 12,197 field goals in his career.

In third place and next on the list is center Wilt Chamberlain, who recorded a total of 12,681 field goals.
