Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has been an international basketball star for the better part of two decades.
He was first introduced to many when he posed for the cover of an issue of Sports Illustrated back on Feb. 18, 2002.
On that cover, James wore the jersey of his high school team, the St. Vincent-St. Mary High School Fighting Irish. Now, it appears as though that jersey could be sold for an incredible amount of money in an auction.
According to TMZ.com, the jersey could sell for as much as $500K.
“Ken Goldin tells us he expects the jersey — which was given by LeBron to a long-time friend who held onto it ’til now — could sell for mid-six figures (think 300k, 400k, $500k+),” wrote TMZ.
That’s quite a bundle for a jersey that has seemingly been in storage for years. Still, considering the fact that James has become arguably the most famous athlete of all time, its value isn’t too much of a shock.
Per the report, the auction for the jersey is set to open on Oct. 19. It will certainly be fun to see where this piece of basketball history ends up.
