There is still no concrete plan on how the NBA will resume the 2019-20 season, even though NBA commissioner Adam Silver spoke with the players in an emotional conference call on Friday.
According to Los Angeles Lakers forward Jared Dudley, the league is considering finishing the season as late as October.
Several players have made it known they want the season to push through, including Lakers star LeBron James. Dudley himself has endorsed the idea of having teams play in a “bubble,” even if it means playing with no fans in attendance.
There are plenty benefits to continuing the 2019-20 campaign — and not just for NBA teams.
For example, resuming NBA games would help boost the U.S. economy, which has been heavily affected by the lockdown and stay-at-home orders in various states.
Also, watching teams play, or sports in general, would improve the morale of millions across the world.
Even so, the NBA is erring on the side of caution, given how highly contagious the coronavirus is and the absence of a vaccine or treatment.
However, it seems like the league is not willing to extend the season further than October so that the next season can be started by December or January.
