Dwight Howard Promises Lakers Won’t Lose If They Make It to NBA Finals

Back in the 2009 NBA Finals, then-superstar Dwight Howard watched his title dreams dashed when he and the Orlando Magic were defeated by Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers.

On Thursday, Howard admitted that he promised himself that he would never allow himself to fall short in the finals again if he were ever given another chance.

In an incredible twist of fate, Howard now has a chance to potentially win a title as a member of the Lakers. He is no longer the superstar he once was, but he will surely get to aid the Lakers in their attempt to win the 2020 NBA Finals.

Howard was acquired by the Lakers before the 2019-20 regular season began shortly after fellow big man DeMarcus Cousins went down with a torn ACL.

While fans were at first reluctant to celebrate the addition, primarily due to Howard’s failed stint with the team during the 2012-13 season, the big man quickly managed to earn their admiration.

Throughout the season, Howard has proven a willingness to do the dirty work for his team. He has averaged 7.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, and has also played a role in helping LeBron James, Anthony Davis and JaVale McGee overpower other NBA frontcourts.

Hopefully, Howard does get a chance to compete in the NBA Finals this season and makes good on his own promise to not let that opportunity fall through his fingers.
