NBA fans all over the world are dreading a potential cancellation of the 2019-20 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Luckily, the United States’ top infectious diseases expert Dr. Anthony Fauci foresees a simple way that leagues such as the NBA could return in a matter of months.
“There’s a way of doing that,” Fauci told Snapchat’s Peter Hamby as part of a weeklong interview series. “Nobody comes to the stadium. Put [the players] in big hotels, wherever you want to play, keep them very well surveilled. … Have them tested every single week and make sure they don’t wind up infecting each other or their family, and just let them play the season out.”
The plan that Fauci mapped out is extensive and painstaking.
Just weeks ago, the scenario would have seemed like a near possibility.
However, prior to the stoppage of play last month, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James said that he would never play in games in which fans were not able to attend.
Surely, more than a month of no basketball has left James hungry to get back on the court with or without fans.
With much of everyday life turned on its axis due to the novel coronavirus, the return of sports would be most welcome for millions worldwide.
Surely, with Fauci’s guidance, the NBA will continue to work endlessly to try to find a way to get its players back to doing what they love as soon as possible.
