It was only a few days ago when the Los Angeles Lakers organization and fans were holding their collective breath as they waited for the MRI results on Anthony Davis’ right thumb.
Now, Davis is already raring to go and play the Lakers’ next game against the Golden State Warriors.
Davis has already even started practicing with the team.
At the 0:31 mark of the video, Davis can be seen attempting a shot at the top of the key. He can then be seen checking his injured hand for a few seconds. While it seemed like he was feeling a bit of discomfort, it is good to know that it does not look like the thumb is still hurting.
Davis said he was testing out his hand and that he was fine after the practice. His plans on playing in the Wednesday match will depend on how he feels at shootaround before the game.
“We’ll see how it feels when I wake up,” Davis told reporters. “It got bumped a couple times, but that’s probably what I wanted just to test it out. We’re going to have to see how it feels at shootaround tomorrow and when I warm up before the game, but so far it felt fine in practice today, so hopefully there are no hiccups.
“The plan is tomorrow, but we’ll see how it feels over the next 24 hours. I’m hoping that I can play.”
It would be prudent for Davis to sit out the rest of the preseason and completely recover from the injury. But with just a week left before the start of the regular season, no one can blame the Lakers star for hoping to play in preparation for a championship run.
