DeMarcus Cousins may not have gotten a single minute of playing time with the Los Angeles Lakers this season, but he’s still enjoying his time with the team.
On a recent episode of the podcast “All The Smoke,” the four-time NBA All-Star told Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson how tight the Purple and Gold have been (around the 41:10 mark).
“I’ve never been a part of a team like this,” said Cousins. “Like, let’s just take away the winning. Just the vibe of the team, if we move it’s one through 15.
“If one dude’s going to the movies, we all going to the movies.”
It’s been a while since the Lakers had a team that was this harmonious. Last season’s edition had a dissonant vibe, as LeBron James’ dissatisfaction with the team’s play apparently drove a wedge between him and his teammates.
The last Lakers team that had this type of togetherness was probably their late-2000s teams. Led by a fully mature Kobe Bryant, they won back-to-back NBA championships and reached the NBA Finals three straight years.
Although Cousins tore his ACL shortly after signing with the Purple and Gold last summer, he’s still been a part of their culture. It’s certainly been a classy move by the organization to keep him in the fold and give him a chance to experience the servant leadership that James is showing this season.
