NBA players are searching for new ways to satisfy their need for competition now that the 2019-20 season has been put on pause due to COVID-19.
One way has been through video games.
In fact, two Los Angeles Lakers stars will be participating in a tournament of the hugely popular third-person shooter “Fortnite.”
“Facebook Gaming and Greenlit Content announced a number of professional athletes will take part in the #PlayApartTogether Tournament, which is part of the World Health Organization’s #PlayApartTogether movement and sponsored by State Farm and Alienware,” BleacherReport.com reported.
The two Lakers players will be big men Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee. They’ll be joined by Cleveland Cavaliers big man Andre Drummond as the third NBA representative.
The tournament is loaded with stars from other leagues as well. Alex Bregman and Lance McCullers Jr. will be representing the MLB.
Jarvis Landry and Christian McCaffrey will be representing the NFL along with highly touted rookie prospects Justin Herbert and Joe Burrow.
Even the WWE will be represented thanks to Ron Killings.
Certainly, the most fun aspect of this tournament will be watching from home via livestream and getting to listen in to the conversations amongst the star athletes.
While the athletes are used to performing on the field, court or ring, they’ll now have to prove that they’ve got what it takes when it comes to gaming.
