Shaquille O’Neal didn’t take kindly to the brash comments that Draymond Green made in late April about the title-winning Los Angeles Lakers teams of the early 2000s.
In an episode of the “All the Smoke” podcast last month, Green not only claimed that his Golden State Warriors would have beaten O’Neal’s Lakers squad, but also had the audacity to question the former Laker center’s defensive abilities.
“Me and [Stephen] Curry would’ve f—— destroyed Shaq in a pick-and-roll,” Green said.
O’Neal responded appropriately to Green on his own podcast.
“I try not to get personal with people’s opinions,” O’Neal said. “But however, Mr. Draymond, like you said, I would’ve torn your a– up on that block.”
Green was quite appreciative of O’Neal earlier in the “All the Smoke” episode that he appeared on. Prior to his demeaning statement about the legendary big man’s defensive capabilities, Green let listeners know that O’Neal was actually his favorite player as a child.
“Shaq (was) my favorite player, growing up as a kid,” Green said. “I had Orlando Magic night lights and f—— onesie pajamas and s— like that. Shaq has always been one of my favorite players. But I’ve always watched the game as a student of the game.”
Regardless of Green’s intentions for showing up one of the best players ever, O’Neal has responded in kind.
It’s up to the Warriors forward whether or not he will push back accordingly.
