Coming into the 2019-20 NBA season, many were counting out LeBron James after he missed several weeks the previous season with the first significant injury of his career.
But so far this season, he’s looked spry as he’s paced the Los Angeles Lakers to a league-best 6-1 record.
After James posted his third-straight triple-double on Tuesday, Shannon Sharpe sent a message to those who have been doubting the four-time NBA MVP.
Sharpe, one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history, has been one of James’ biggest backers in the mainstream media since teaming up with veteran journalist Skip Bayless to host “Skip and Shannon: Undisputed” on Fox Sports 1.
Prior to the start of the season, most didn’t consider James to be the best player in the game anymore, an accolade he’s enjoyed since the start of this decade.
Sports Illustrated ranked him as merely the third-best in the league in September while placing Kawhi Leonard one spot ahead.
But James is looking every bit as great as he’s been in recent years, as he has averaged 25.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and a league-best 11.2 assists per game through the Lakers’ first six contests.
On Tuesday, he posted 30 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists as the Lakers overcame an 18-point deficit to defeat the Chicago Bulls, 118-112.
In doing so, James became the first Laker to register three straight triple-doubles since Magic Johnson did it in the mid-1980s.
