According to a source close to the Los Angeles Lakers, superstar LeBron James has decided to call it quits if the 2019-20 season doesn’t resume at some point this year.
“I fully believe that an NBA championship was taken from me,” said James of the NBA’s hiatus due to the novel coronavirus. “First Kyrie [Irving] and Kev (Kevin Love) get injured in 2015. Then K.D. (Kevin Durant) joins a superteam to rig the league? There’s no doubt in my mind we were going to win it all this season. Now I’m losing a valuable year of my prime due to unforeseen circumstances.”
James does have a point. The Lakers were the odds-on favorites to win the title for the 2019-20 season. Their chemistry was clicking at its highest level, and James was just rounding into playoff form.
The Lakers were running away with the first seed in the Western Conference, as they had a five-and-a-half-game lead over the second-place Los Angeles Clippers.
The NBA season was paused on March 11 after the Utah Jazz’s Rudy Gobert tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Several NBA players since then have tested positive for the virus.
As a matter of fact, two Lakers players had reportedly tested positive for the virus, but it’s not clear who those two players are.
