The NBA’s trade deadline is inching closer with every passing second, and reports are still indicating that the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to make a move.
According to a Monday report from ESPN’s Zach Lowe, the Lakers are still interested in getting a deal done to acquire Sacramento Kings guard Bogdan Bogdanovic.
“The Bogdan Bogdanovic situation could go to the wire,” Lowe wrote. “The Lakers and Hornets are among teams who have expressed interest, sources say. The Sixers seem like a natural fit, but the two teams do not appear to have had any substantive talks.”
Lowe went on to report that the Lakers are keeping tabs on the market for forward Kyle Kuzma as well.
“The Lakers have investigated the market on Kyle Kuzma, per sources and prior reports,” he wrote. “They have poked around on a long list of ball handlers.
Given both updates, it seems rather possible that the Lakers are still trying to get a deal done that sends Kuzma to Sacramento in exchange for Bogdanovic.
Bogdanovic could offer the Lakers a fantastic offensive option in the backcourt. He’s currently averaging 14.4 points, 3.3 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game this season.
He’s also solid from beyond the arc and has shot 37.4 percent from three-point land in his NBA career.
As for Kuzma, he has struggled to find consistency for the Lakers this season. With the addition of Anthony Davis this past offseason, Kuzma has been relegated primarily to a bench role so far this season.
Still, his production has seen a solid uptick as of late.
In the month of January, he averaged 14.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Both averages reflect improvements in production compared to those of the first two full months of the 2019-20 campaign.
Recently, Lakers star LeBron James stated that his team’s roster was already at a championship-caliber level. In the coming days, it will be discovered whether or not those words were genuine, or simply savvy leadership.
