Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman reportedly is leaving his agency, Klutch Sports, because of LeBron James.
James is the agency’s biggest client and has been vocal about Houston’s sign-stealing scandal, creating a new docuseries on his media platform, “Uninterrupted.”
That was reportedly the “overriding factor” in Bregman’s decision to leave his Klutch Sports agent, Brodie Scoffield.
“Uninterrupted, part of James’ budding media empire, is a separate entity from Klutch,” The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal wrote. “One source, however, said Bregman felt angry and betrayed Scoffield put him in a position in which a fellow Klutch client — the biggest star in the NBA — would help develop a series focusing on the darkest moment of his career.”
There were other factors as well, as Bregman could have been upset with the five-year, $100 million extension that he signed while Scoffield was still an agent for TLA Worldwide, which has since become GSE Worldwide.
However, the two-time All-Star was apparently happy with the deal when he signed.
“I wanted to play here,” Bregman said at the time. “I didn’t want to play anywhere else.”
James started “Uninterrupted” as an athlete empowerment brand, but in this case, it was the use of that brand that apparently helped drive Bregman away.
