Rajon Rondo Says Anthony Davis Should Win Both MVP and DPOY

Anthony Davis has been nothing short of a revelation for the Los Angeles Lakers this season, and teammate Rajon Rondo thinks he deserves a whole lot of hardware as a result.

In fact, Rondo recently stated that he’ll be upset if Davis doesn’t win both the league’s MVP and Defensive Player of the Year awards.

“I got him as MVP and Defensive Player of the Year,” Rondo said. “So, if he only gets one, I’ll be pissed. My expectations are really high for him so we have to continue to win as a team and hopefully, the rest of the world will understand and see that he’s a really big part of why we are who we are.”

Right now, Davis is averaging 26.0 points, 9.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.7 blocks and 1.4 steals per game. His blocks-per-game average is good for best in the NBA right now.

His contributions go far beyond just the stat sheet, however.

In the past two games, his dominance has been on full display. In Tuesday’s win over the Denver Nuggets, he held star big man Novak Jokic to just 13 points.

The following night, he bullied defending DPOY Rudy Gobert on his way to 26 points.

His length and athleticism have made him a key cog in the Lakers’ top-five defense when it comes to defensive rating.

While there is a lot of season left to go, Davis is certainly making his case for both awards.

Whether or not he actually gets the recognition for his incredible play remains to be seen.
