Patrick Beverley says Lakers may have best No. 3 and No. 4 options in entire NBA

Luka Doncic and LeBron James stand out as the Los Angeles Lakers’ top two options at this time.

Doncic is an offensive maestro and perennial MVP contender who is not even be in the prime of his career yet at just 25 years old. Conversely, James is arguably the best player of his generation and still a nightly triple-double threat at the age of 40.

But the Lakers have effective offensive threats outside of merely James and Doncic. Guard Austin Reaves and forward Rui Hachimura have provided Los Angeles with contributions virtually all season, and former Lakers guard Patrick Beverley said that they might be the best No. 3 and No. 4 options in the league.

“You talk about a third option, you look around the NBA, he might be the best third option in the NBA in Austin Reaves,” Beverley said. “You talk about your fourth option in Rui Hachimura, he might be the best fourth option in the NBA. I’m talking about on one team.”

Reaves has steadily improved as a scorer ever since he started off his pro career with the storied franchise in the 2021-22 season. His scoring average has risen with each passing season in the league, and he’s averaging a career-high 19.1 points per game in the 2024-25 campaign while shooting 44.6 percent from the field and 35.9 percent from deep.

The 26-year-old also brings more to the table on the offensive side of the floor outside of his knack for putting the ball through the net. He’s become quite effective at playmaking for his teammates, as he’s dishing out 6.2 assists compared to 2.4 turnovers per contest this season.

Reaves’ passing chops were on full display in the Lakers’ last game before the All-Star break. He racked up 11 assists against the Utah Jazz back on Feb. 12 and turned the ball over just once.

Hachimura isn’t the facilitator Reaves is, but he’s been another one of the team’s more productive offensive players this season. He’s averaging 13.4 points per game in his third season in Los Angeles and has been scoring the ball very efficiently in the process. His 3-point percentage of 43.4 percent marks a team-high, and he’s attempting 3.9 3s per contest.

While the play of Doncic and James will have a lot to do with how successful the Lakers are this season, it will be important that Hachimura and Reaves provide Los Angeles with ancillary help in the final stretches of the regular season and beyond.
