Ever since being traded by the Los Angeles Lakers to the New Orleans Pelicans in early July, Lonzo Ball had been quiet about his impending move.
Until now, that is.
In his latest rap single, entitled “Last Days,” Ball seems to take a swipe at his former employer with the following lyric:
Ball was drafted by the Lakers with the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft amidst great fanfare and hype. He grew up in Chino Hills, Calif., which is just over an hour east of downtown Los Angeles, and was a standout in his lone season at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Although he has proven to be a talented passer and ball-handler, as well as a strong defender, he’s also been something of a disappointment in his first two NBA seasons.
Despite averaging 6.4 assists and 6.2 rebounds per game so far in his career, he’s shot only 38.0 percent from the field, 31.5 percent from 3-point range and 43.7 percent from the free-throw line.
In joining the Pelicans, Ball appears to be teaming up with a collection of talented young players, including Jrue Holiday, former Lakers teammates Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart and No. 1 overall draft pick Zion Williamson.
