On Friday night, the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Miami Heat in a defensive battle, 95-80, and LeBron James had a whimsical response when asked why he’s been playing so well so far this season.
James had a relatively quiet 25 points and six assists, as the Lakers won the game mostly on the defensive end. Coming into the game, he was riding a streak of three straight triple-doubles.
It was the longest triple-double streak by any Lakers player since Magic Johnson had a streak of his own in the 1986-87 season.
The Purple and Gold are now 7-1 and are owners of the league’s longest active winning streak at seven games.
They’re first in the league in defensive rating at 96.5, which is a very impressive number in this era of high-powered offenses.
Through eight games, James is averaging 26 points, 7.8 rebounds and 10.5 assists per game.
At this rate, he has a real chance of leading the league in assists. Despite his immense talent in that department, leading the league in assists is a feat he has yet to accomplish.
Doing so in his 17th season would go a long way in proving that he is, indeed, aging like a fine wine.
