Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James will serve as team captain for the Western Conference in next month’s NBA All-Star Game after garnering the most votes of any player in the balloting.

The accolade will mark the third consecutive season in which the 35-year-old James will serve as a team captain, which allows him to choose teammates for the Feb. 16 contest in Chicago.

During his first season, James was finishing up a four-year return to the Cleveland Cavaliers before signing with the Lakers in July 2018.

James and Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo, the vote leader in the Eastern Conference, will be making the selections for the second year in a row.

The appearance in the All-Star contest will mark the 16th selection to the annual clash for James. His lone absence came in 2004, during his rookie season with the Cavaliers.

James will not be the only Lakers player starting in the game, with newcomer Anthony Davis also being tabbed. Coaches will be in charge of choosing reserves for the game, with those results announced next week on TNT.

On three occasions, James has been named Most Valuable Player in the All-Star Game, being chosen in 2006, 2008 and in 2018.
