Nearly a month after the NBA suspended the 2019-20 season due to the novel coronavirus, there’s nothing but uncertainty about what will happen next.
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James told the media today how he’ll feel if the rest of the season gets canceled, which seems to be a real possibility.
As of now, league officials seem to be preparing for every possible outcome. It looks like they may resume the season if it would mean crowning a champion by September.
But according to reports, the NBA is also preparing for a doomsday scenario where the rest of the season is outright canceled.
Such a scenario would be almost unprecedented in North American sports history. The only relevant precedent would be the 1994 Major League Baseball strike, which robbed fans across the continent of the World Series that October.
Prior to the suspension of NBA season, the Lakers had established themselves as the favorites to win their 17th NBA championship. They have a 49-14 record, which is tops in the Western Conference.
With a 3-6 record in the NBA Finals, James needs to win at least one more championship to make a strong argument that he’s the greatest NBA player of all time.
