Ever since he became a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, Anthony Davis has been developing a solid bond with fellow star LeBron James.
After a monster performance by Davis in the team’s 120-91 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday, James said that Davis still hasn’t even scratched the surface of what he can ultimately become.
The former New Orleans Pelicans star put up 40 points and 20 rebounds in just 31 minutes of play. He became the first Lakers player to have a 40-point, 20-rebound game since Shaquille O’Neal in 2003.
Davis got it done by drawing a long string of fouls in the third quarter when the Lakers turned a scant two-point lead into a hearty 21-point advantage.
For the game, he attempted 27 free throws and made 26 of them, setting a Lakers franchise record in the process.
By winning three of their first four games, the Lakers are off to their best start since the 2010-11 campaign, their last with Phil Jackson as their head coach.
They will embark on a three-game road trip later this week, which begins against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday.
