Entering Monday’s huge road contest against the Boston Celtics, the Los Angeles Lakers have indicated that the statuses of both Anthony Davis and Rajon Rondo are uncertain.
Davis suffered a sacral contusion just above his tailbone after taking a hard fall in a Jan. 7 victory over the New York Knicks. Despite his absence, the Lakers have been able to stay among the elite teams in the league, winning that contest as well as four of their last five games.
Rondo is recovering from a fractured right ring finger suffered during a Jan. 11 game at Oklahoma City. The veteran guard was able to continue playing in that contest, but after hitting his first six shots, he connected on just 4-of-16 from the field the remainder of the game.
The Lakers have been dealing with injuries all season, but enter the matchup against the Celtics with a 34-8 record, the best mark in the Western Conference.
Due to the importance of having both players, especially Davis in the lineup, the Lakers want to make sure that both players are fully healthy again before clearing them to play. The risk of re-injury or dealing with lingering issues is not something the team wants to deal with once the postseason arrives in April.
The Lakers were able to win in Houston on Saturday night, the first game of a five-game road trip. Following the Boston game, the Lakers will face New York and Brooklyn before closing out their travel with a Saturday night game in Philadelphia.
