LeBron James is prolific when it comes to using social media to connect with his millions of fans all over the world.
Now, it appears as though the Los Angeles Lakers superstar is facing a lawsuit for some recent action on his Facebook page.
According to a report from Ryan Naumann of TheBlast.com, James and his companies Uninterrupted Digital Ventures and LRMR Ventures LLC are being sued by a photographer for using his work without permission.
“This is an action for copyright infringement under Section 501 of the Copyright Act,” photographer Steven Mitchell said. “This action arises out of Defendant’s unauthorized reproduction and public display of a copyrighted photograph of NBA basketball player LeBron James during a basketball game against the Miami Heat, owned and registered by Mitchell, a professional photographer.”
Mitchell is not only suing James for $150,000 per infringement, he is also asking James to hand over all accounting of profits that the NBA star made from the Facebook post. Mitchell believes he is entitled to all profits as a result of “unlawful conduct.”
James is far from the first star to face this type of infringement suit. Actor Liam Hemsworth dealt with a similar suit, as did supermodel Bella Hadid.
Luckily for James, even if he is ultimately ordered to pay the $150,000, he likely won’t feel it all that much. His current net worth is estimated to be just below $500 million.
