The Los Angeles Lakers welcomed Anthony Davis back from injury earlier this week, but the team may be without the superstar for its Thursday night game versus the Brooklyn Nets.
The team’s injury report listed Davis as questionable for the upcoming matchup.
Davis has played in the Lakers’ last two games since missing nearly two weeks due to a bone bruise.
In Wednesday night’s win over the New York Knicks, Davis recorded 28 points, five assists and five rebounds in 30 minutes of playing time.
While it is possible that his appearance on the injury report is an indication that the injury has flared up, it is also possible that the team is simply intent on resting the big man during the second leg of a back-to-back.
During his extended absence due to the bone bruise, Davis stated that the Lakers’ winning ways made it possible for him to extend his absence to recover even further.
Despite getting blown out in a game versus the Boston Celtics earlier this week, it appears that Davis and the Lakers are still taking it easy with his road to recovery.
Ultimately, that approach is undoubtedly best for the team going forward. With the Lakers enjoying a comfortable lead for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, it is now crucial to take a long-term approach for the rest of the season.
Davis is one of the key pieces that the Lakers need to be fully healthy entering the playoffs. Forcing him to play when he is experiencing even the slightest bit of discomfort would go against that long-term philosophy.
