The outstanding performance last week of the Los Angeles Lakers’ Anthony Davis was recognized on Monday when the perennial All-Star was named for the second time this season as the NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Week.

Davis’ magical week began with his lone double-double of the week, when he scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a Dec. 3 road win over the Denver Nuggets.

The following night, Davis contributed 26 points and six boards in a win over Utah. Then followed it up on Friday night with a 39-point, nine-rebound and second consecutive three-block performance at Portland.

Returning home on Sunday, Davis saved the best for last with a tremendous effort in which he scored 50 points and collected seven rebounds. Yet, those numbers served as only a portion of what Davis provided the Lakers against the Minnesota Timberwolves, when he also handed out six assists and picked up four steals on the night.

The contributions of Davis, who also won the same honor on Nov. 4, continue what’s been a strong start on both his part and for the Lakers as a team. In the latter case, the Lakers now have a league-best record of 21-3.

After being acquired during the offseason, Davis has averaged 27.7 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.7 blocks and 1.5 steals per game.

Davis and the Lakers will now begin a five-game road trip that gets underway with two games in the state of Florida. The first of those comes on Wednesday night against the Orlando Magic, followed on Friday night by a matchup against the Miami Heat.
