The entire Los Angeles Lakers organization is currently holding its breath as it awaits further information on star big man Anthony Davis’ thumb injury.
Per one Saturday report, initial exams have shown nothing but good news as Davis’ right thumb showed no ligament damage and the injury is believed to be a Grade 1 sprain.
There are three levels of severity when it comes to ligament strains with Grade 1 being the least severe. That level of strain indicates that the ligament was stretched or slightly torn, with primary symptoms including mild tenderness, swelling and stiffness.
The injury occurred when Davis went up for a block in the first quarter of the Lakers’ preseason matchup against the Brooklyn Nets in Shenzhen, China.
The Lakers were crippled by injuries last season and missed the playoffs entirely as a result. Already this year they have lost big man DeMarcus Cousins to an ACL tear. Kyle Kuzma is also currently inactive due to injury.
If they were to lose Davis for an extended period of time, it could seriously jeopardize the Lakers’ goals for the 2019-20 season.
Luckily, all indications thus far is that he won’t be out for very long.
