The fallout from losing DeMarcus Cousins for the season due to an ACL tear continues for the Los Angeles Lakers.
On Tuesday, it was reported by Adrian Wojnarowski that the Lakers will be bringing in Dwight Howard, Joakim Noah, and Mo Speights for individual workouts this week.
All three players represent solid vets who are past their NBA primes.
Last season, Howard played just nine games due to injury, averaging 12.9 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. If he were able to maintain that kind of production throughout an 82-game season, it would be an incredible achievement for the five-time All-NBA First Team member.
For Noah, he actually enjoyed a bit of a resurgent year last season with the Memphis Grizzlies. His 7.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game averages were certainly not eye-popping, but they did seem to prove that the former Defensive Player of the Year still had some tank left in the gas after two dismal seasons with the New York Knicks.
As for Speights, the last time he played in the NBA was when he was a member of the Orlando Magic in the 2017-18 season, Last season, he spent his time playing with the Guangzhou Long-Lions of the Chinese Basketball Association.
It is certainly slim pickings for the Lakers at this point. While they are likely not to find a player who will have a massive positive impact on their upcoming season, it’s clear that they are looking for players who can offer a veteran presence on the floor.
