Prior to the NBA pausing the 2019-20 season due to the novel coronavirus, the Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks seemed to be on a crash course to meet in the 2020 NBA Finals.
Perhaps that’s why Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo had such a dramatic reaction when he found out that his girlfriend, Mariah Riddlesprigger, grew up a Lakers fan.
Antetokounmpo first learned about her former fandom during a recent Instagram Live video.
“Oh no, I gotta stop Live now,” Antetokounmpo said upon learning the news. “Oh hell no. Oh hell no.”
Just like millions of people around the United States, Antetokounmpo and Riddlesprigger seem to be sheltering in place and practicing self-isolation to try to halt the spread of the highly contagious virus.
Prior to the stoppage of play in early March, Antetokounmpo seemed well on his way to winning a second straight MVP award.
In fact, the only player who really appeared to be seriously challenging Antetokounmpo for the award was Lakers star LeBron James.
One interesting thing to note is that earlier this season, Antetokounmpo mentioned that it would be “awesome” to one day play in Los Angeles.
He discussed the possibility when he talked about joining forces with his younger brother, Kostas, who is currently on a two-way contract with the Lakers.
If the elder Antetokounmpo does ever end up donning the Purple and Gold, there’s no doubt that his girlfriend’s former fandom would make a strong comeback.
