DeMarcus Cousins Says LeBron James Should Run for President of United States

With the 2020 presidential election just around the corner, some celebrities might be encouraged to run for office in the coming months.

In fact, it looks like LeBron James has already received his first endorsement.

During an appearance on the “All The Smoke” podcast, Los Angeles Lakers big man DeMarcus Cousins suggested that James should someday run for president.

“I grew up a fan of him in general, but to get to know him off the court, like, he’s a real dude,” said Cousins. “And coming in, I did not expect that. I’ve always seen the corporate LeBron. … He’s a real dude. … I told him the other day. I’m like, ‘Bro, you need to run for president.’”

James obviously has no political experience, but he has made his voice heard by championing progressive causes.

Not that long ago, he criticized president Donald Trump by calling him a “bum” after he rescinded his White House invitation to Stephen Curry.

More recently, James tweeted his support of SB 206, a bill that will require college athletes in California to get paid starting in 2023.

Bernie Sanders, the current frontrunner for the Democratic party’s nomination, retweeted James’ post. Sanders even said in an interview that, he would take James over Michael Jordan in the greatest of all time debate, although he admitted it’s because James supported SB 206.

While Cousins would clearly vote for James, the four-time MVP said after practice on Thursday that he has no interest in running for president.
